About Betsy
I have been an independent counsellor and psychotherapist since 1989, maintaining a private practice in central York. I am part of a network of highly qualified therapists who mutually refer. I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and supervision.
I am an American with a background in Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts. I have lived in the UK for many years and am able to offer therapy to people who experience problems with social or cultural adjustment, identity, exclusion, the longing to belong, diversity and difference.
I offer a lively face-to-face, therapeutic relationship which respects your individual differences, your unique history and your particular aims and goals.
Training and Qualifications
I began training in Transactional Analysis in 1986 at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy, first as a Counsellor, then as a a Supervisor and Integrative Psychotherapist. I qualified as a Certified Transactional Analyst in 1997 with the UK Institute of Transactional Analysis. I became Registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy in 1997. I became a Registered Member of the UK Institute of Transactional Analysis in 2004. I completed a post-graduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Skills with the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF London) in 2007-08. I am a member of the NHS Directory of Complementary and Alternative Practitioners.
I have over the years built on my core Transactional Analysis modality by continuing both personal development and further training in group analysis, psychoanalysis, attachment theory and cognitive behavioural skills.
